The Executive Head of the Representation Office Paid a Visit to Karcag

At the invitation of Tibor Szepesi, the Mayor of Karcag, F. Sándor Kovács MP and Imre Hubai, the Chairman of the Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County Assembly, Ambassador István Vásáry, the Executive Head of the Representation Office of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Budapest paid a visit to Karcag. He was accompanied by Gábor Jenei, the CEO of the Hungarian Export Promotion Agency (HEPA) and László Örlős, the Operations Director of the Drought Prevention Institute (DPI).

In the capital of the Kunság (Cumania), István Vásáry conducted consultations on the opportunities for future cooperation between the Representation Office and the town of Karcag. The hosts offered him a briefing on their activities, aimed at establishing a multi-sectoral partnership with the Turkic world. The Sides paid special attention to the food industry, water management that is closely linked to it, as well as to cooperation in the field of culture, science and sport.

On behalf of HEPA, Gábor Jenei offered his assistance to direct the attention of the stakeholders in the Hungarian agricultural sector to the opportunities to invest in the countries of the Turkic world. László Örlős raised, on the other hand, the possibility that in the framework of the upcoming events of the OTS, Karcag should be the host of the next Board meeting of DPI on the margins of the upcoming informal Summit of the OTS. This proposal was welcomed by all the participants, since Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County is afforded a priority role in the efforts in Hungary to prevent droughts.

After the consultations the participants visited the Karcag Treasure Arts and Conference Center which opened – among others – the exhibition “Nomads of Kazakhstan: History and Present” in the fall of 2024.

To conclude their visit, the guests laid a wreath at the statue of Gyula Németh, the world-renowned Turkologist, born in Karcag in 1890.
