Secretary General Kubanychbek Omuraliev Paid a Three-day Visit to Budapest

On April, 28, 2025 the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev participated in the opening ceremony of the Hungarian–Turkic Summit on Culture, Education and Innovation in Budapest, initiated by Minister for Culture and Innovation Balázs Hankó and organized by his Ministry. In his address, the Secretary General referred to the key role that Hungary plays as an Observer of the OTS, emphasizing the dynamic nature of the multifaceted cooperation between our country and the Turkic States. Kubanychbek Omuraliev also underlined the significance of bringing together a group of ministers and high-level officials from Hungary and the Turkic States to promote cooperation and enhance dialogue in culture, education and innovation.

On 29 April, 2025 H.E. Kubanychbek Omuraliev delivered a keynote speech at the Second Meeting of the Heads of Competition Authorities of the OTS, hosted by the Hungarian Competition Authority in Budapest. In his remarks, Ambassador Omuraliev underlined the significant role that fair competition plays in driving sustainable economic growth and the regional integration of the Turkic States. He also attached great importance to having a transparent and competitive business environment that stimulates innovation, attracts investment, and provides equal opportunities to stakeholders in business life. Highlighting the need for cooperation, Kubanychbek Omuraliev called on the members of the OTS to harmonize their competition policies, and at the same time strengthen the enforcement of the combat against anti-competitive practices since they hinder economic development and work against regional stability.

The Second Meeting of the Heads of Competition Authorities of the OTS provided an excellent opportunity for the participants to exchange their experiences, as well as share best practices, and explore the strategies of cooperation to promote fair competition and economic growth in the Turkic States. The participants of the Meeting stressed the significance of fostering a competitive business environment in order to enhance regional trade and investment opportunities. The Sides signed the Communiqué of the 2nd Meeting of the Heads of Competition Authorities of the OTS.

On the margins of the 2nd Meeting of the Heads of Competition Authorities of the OTS, and also on April 29, 2025, Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev held a meeting with Csaba Balázs Rigó, the President of the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH). During the meeting the Sides exchanged their views on promoting cooperation in areas of mutual interest. They paid particular attention to promoting fair competition and economic development within the OTS Member States and the Observers. The Sides pointed out Hungary’s active role within the OTS and her contributions to strengthening economic ties among the Turkic States. The meeting between the Secretary General and the President of the Hungarian Competition Authority underscored their shared commitment to deepening partnership and exploring new opportunities for cooperation in harmony with the strategic objectives of the OTS.

Before the high-level event hosted by the Danube Institute in Budapest on 30 April 2025, Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev also held a meeting with Mr. John O’Sullivan, the President of the Danube Institute. The Secretary General commended President O’Sullivan for his longstanding contributions to strengthening strategic dialogue in Hungary and beyond. Ambassador Omuraliev highlighted the importance of think-tanks, as well as Hungary’s active and growing role, emphasizing her valuable engagement with the Turkic world. The Sides also discussed potential avenues for future cooperation between the OTS and the Danube Institute.

On April 30, 2025, after his meeting with President O’Sullivan, Secretary General Kubanychbek Omuraliev, delivered a keynote speech at a high-level event hosted by the Danube Institute in Budapest, entitled “The Organization of Turkic States and Hungary in the New Emerging World Order.” The Conference was examining the growing geopolitical relevance of the OTS, and the special role that Hungary is playing as a strategic “connector” between the East and the West. The Secretary General offered detailed information on the mission of the OTS and its objective to be a platform for promoting regional connectivity and economic integration among its Member States and Observers. The OTS is based on shared values, identity and aspirations. The participating countries make efforts to address pressing global challenges, such as energy security and sustainable development. In his remarks at the event, Ambassador Omuraliev highlighted the deepening partnership between Hungary and the OTS since Hungary attained observer status in 2018. He emphasized Hungary’s active engagement with all the five OTS Member States and her hosting significant OTS events, including the Informal Summit of the OTS on 21 May 2025.

Ambassador Balázs Hendrich, the Executive Director of the Representation Office of the OTS in Hungary was invited to participate in the panel discussion organized within the framework of the above high level event. In his remarks, he also emphasized the role of a bridge that Hungary plays between the West and the Turkic world. He stressed the opportunities arising from the membership of Hungary in the European Union that could greatly promote the relations of the member countries of the OTS to be built with the EU.
